Artist Bio: Kathy Piwowar

Kathy started life in Oklahoma but has lived in Canada for over 40 years. After a lifetime of loving art, her 50's brought a burst of pent up artistic expression that found fertile ground in the Whitehorse art scene. A long list of local workshops, a stint at Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, Alberta, as well as courses at Emily Carr in Vancouver, BC, brought Kathy to her present level of mixed media versatility.

Texture, pattern, grids and other strong graphic elements distinguish her work. Dogs, wildlife, figures and birds reflect her background in biology. Materials that find their way into her art range from beads bought in Ghana, real sinew purchased in Inuvik N.W.T., broken glass found in the desert of the Australian Outback, to a dragonfly wing peeled off a radiator in Panama.

Kathy's work has been exhibited twice at the Yukon Art Centre Public Gallery Whitehorse, Yukon, ten consecutive years at The Great Northern Art Festival Inuvik, NWT, as well as numerous solo, two person, and group shows in the Whitehorse area.
